ROOT CANAL TREATMENT

WHAT IS ROOT CANAL TREATMENT?

It is the dental treatment applied when the inner nerves of the tooth (dental pulp) are damaged beyond recovery or dead due to caries or trauma. In the natural structure of the teeth, there are canals where there are dental nerves. Root canal treatment is the removal of the infected nerves within these canals and disinfecting the canals. After these steps, the canals are filled with tissue-friendly canal filling materials .

WHEN DOES ROOT CANALTREATMENT BECOME NECESSARY?

  • In case of physical impact on the teeth or on the jaw.
  • In case of physical irritation caused by deep tooth decay cases.

Bacteria in advanced tooth decay continue multiplying in the dental pulp and cause pain and pressure. Sometimes this leads to swellings on face. In some cases there may be less pain, but the abscess in the deep root advances and causes destruction in the bone surrounding the tooth.

A molar tooth with an inflammatory root and swollen gum due to caries.

  • In case of advanced gingival diseases.
  • Faulty, not well-adjusted fillings and prosthesis work in the mouth.
  • Previous malpractices in orthodontic treatments.

HOW IS THE TREATMENT CARRIED OUT?

  • First, local anesthesia is applied so that you don’t feel any pain in the course of the whole process.
  • Then, the nerve tissue is removed from the roots of the tooth and the canals are cleaned and reshaped.
  • Finally, the root canals are filled with tissue friendly material and a temporary layer is placed to protect the tooth until the final filling is completed.

The whole process is completed within an appointment lasting for half an hour to one hour.
